Some Dos and Don’ts for the Night Before Your Wedding

As your wedding day approaches, it’s time to start putting the final pieces into place. This includes deciding what to do the night before your nuptials. You have an almost unlimited choice of activities, but not all of them are a good idea if you want to look and feel your best for the wedding.

So, what should you do – and just as importantly, not do – the night before you get married? Here are a few dos and don’ts.

Do Hang With Loved Ones
Most brides and grooms are a little nervous at this point. Having your closest friends and family around goes a long way to alleviating worries and distracting you. How many people to invite over this evening depends on you. Some want all their close friends and attendants while others just want one best friend or a parent. Don’t let others dictate with whom you spend your final single night.

Don’t Stay Up All Night
Whether they’re having fun with friends or trying to get the last of the wedding to-do list finished, many couples end up staying up way too late before the big day. Don’t fall victim to this temptation. You want a good night’s sleep so you wake up refreshed and looking your best. Set a lights-out time with whoever stays the night with you. Moreover, put your phone away early in the evening.

Do Eat Properly
It’s normal to be anxious and not want to eat before the wedding. It’s equally normal to have so much fun that you overindulge in eating and drinking. However, avoid new or unusual foods at this stage. The last thing you want is a stomachache, food poisoning, or bloating on your wedding day. In addition, keep portions balanced and opt for light, filling, healthy fare. Avoid temptation by ordering food in advance.

Don’t Work on Chores
One of the most common ways to spend tonight is working on last-minute wedding prep. Unfortunately, this could rob you of the joy of this moment, increase stress and tension, and make you tired and irritable in the morning.

Plan ahead to avoid having a big to-do list. Start assigning tasks to others a week in advance. Create a priority list for incomplete tasks. Let your friends help you relax about what you can’t resolve.

Do a Beauty Routine
What makes you feel special, pampered, and glowing? No matter what it is, carve out time this evening to give attention to your personal beauty routine. Wear a mask, paint your nails, moisturize, or use your special serum. Make it a girls’ (or boys’) night activity with friends. Just steer clear of untested or skin-irritating beauty treatments.

Don’t Drink too Much
A little celebratory wine, beer, or champagne is okay tonight. But don’t go out for shots with your friends. This is one reason that many wedding experts recommend having any bachelor or bachelorette parties the weekend before the nuptials. That way, you can have your fun and still look and feel fabulous on your wedding day.

Do Get Romantic
Most couples practice the tradition of spending their last night apart, but this doesn’t mean you can’t make it romantic. Check in on your fiancé over the phone. Write them a romantic love note to give the next day. Play an online game with them. Share a goodnight kiss. Send messages via your attendants. This will relax you and remind you what this weekend is really all about.
