Tips On Creating Your Perfect Registry
Congratulations!! By now you’ve likely set your date, chosen your venue and prepared your guest list. Checking all of those big items off of your wedding planning to-do list must have felt euphoric! But now that those are out of the way, what’s next?
Before you can send out your invitations, you have to make your registry. Otherwise how are your guests going to know what you want and need to start your lives together?? If you aren’t sure where to start, here are a few tips on how to create the perfect wedding registry.
Create It As a Couple
Planning a wedding isn’t (or at least shouldn’t be) a solo act. The big day is just as much for the groom as it is for the bride. Creating your registry is the same. When deciding which items you would like to have for your life-after-wedding, the decisions should be made as a team.
Make a Day Out of the Experience
Now that you’ve got your significant other with you, make creating your registry something fun and special. Planning a wedding can get hectic, especially when other people interject their opinions (with the best intentions); so take a day for it to be just the two of you. Registering in person makes the experience more fun and there are a bunch of great stores you can check out. Plus in between stops you can have a lunch date!
Come Prepared
Keep on track when browsing items to put on your registry by knowing what you want and need for your post-marital life. If you already have a mixer, linens or dinnerware that you like, don’t feel pressured to register for something new. Now that more couples live together before marriage, what were once considered typical registry items aren’t always needed. Instead consider options like a new mattress that meets your comfort needs as a couple or even a gift certificate to a place where you can have your wedding photos turned into somethin g special for your home like a canvas. Don’t rule items out just because they’re outside what used to be considered traditional.
Give Your Guests Options
Now that you have your registry made, it’s time to make it accessible to your guests. If you have a wedding website, link to all of the places you registered so guests have easy access to all information with just a few clicks. Also list the places you’re registered on your invitations so guests can go to the store. Make sure you’ve included both of your names on all registries to make them easy to find.
Let your guests know where they can send any gifts if they don’t want to bring them to the actual wedding or if they are larger items, this will also help you out so you don’t have to worry about getting them home. Make sure to also contact your venue to see options for displaying or even storing any gifts.
